A question we get asked a lot is how to clean hardwood floors in a safe, healthy and effective way. The great thing about cleaning your hardwood floors organically is that it’s not only better for the environment and your home, but it’s also better for the floors themselves!

Here’s our Supreme Clean guide on how to clean your hardwood floors:

Step 1: Sweep the floor – it is important to remove debris and dust prior to cleaning a floor with a wet solution.

Step 2: Create an organic solution of Vinegar and Water – mix ¼ cup of white vinegar and 1 gallon of warm water in a bucket. Vinegar is a natural disinfectant.

Step 3: Use a DAMP not a wet mop – this step is very important. If the mop or towel is too wet, it can damage your floors. Dip a mop or cloth into the vinegar and water solution and then wring out to ensure dampness, but not wetness. Once you have mopped your floor, wipe dry any areas that have excess wetness.

Step 4: Use an old toothbrush on stubborn spots. Some spots may not immediately come up with the mop or cloth. If this is the case, use a small scrub brush like an old toothbrush to remove the affected area, then wipe dry.

Step 5: Polish the floor – this is an optional step but one that provides great conditioning for your floors and gives it that super clean and polished look. Mix a few drops of olive oil and vinegar (a 1:1 ratio) and apply sparingly to the floor. Use a cloth to buff and dry.
