Tips to Live Organically

Cleaning your rugs using organic and natural methods can be an effective and eco-friendly way to maintain their appearance. Here are some methods for organically cleaning your rugs:

  • 1. Baking Soda:
    • Sprinkle baking soda liberally over the rug’s surface.
    • Let it sit for several hours or overnight.
    • Vacuum the rug thoroughly to remove the baking soda along with dirt and odors.
  • 2. Vinegar Solution:
    • Mix equal parts of white vinegar and water in a spray bottle.
    • Lightly mist the rug with the vinegar solution.
    • Blot the rug with a clean cloth or sponge to absorb dirt and stains.
    • Allow the rug to air-dry.
  • 3. Lemon and Salt:
    • Mix lemon juice with salt to form a paste.
    • Apply the paste to stains on the rug.
    • Let it sit for a few hours.
    • Gently scrub the stained area with a soft brush.
    • Wipe away the paste with a damp cloth.
  • 4. Cornstarch:
    • Sprinkle cornstarch on greasy or oily stains.
    • Leave it for several hours to absorb the oil.
    • Vacuum the rug to remove the cornstarch and the absorbed oils.
  • 5. Club Soda:
    • Pour club soda directly onto the stained area.
    • Blot the area with a clean cloth or sponge.
    • Repeat until the stain is lifted, then allow the rug to air-dry.
  • 6. Essential Oils:
    • Mix a few drops of your favorite essential oil (such as lavender or tea tree oil) with water.
    • Spray the mixture lightly over the rug for a pleasant scent.
    • Ensure the rug is completely dry before using it.
  • 7. Liquid Castile Soap:
    • Mix a small amount of liquid castile soap with water.
    • Apply the soapy solution to the rug with a sponge or soft brush.
    • Gently scrub the rug and then wipe away the soap with a clean, damp cloth.
  • 8. Hydrogen Peroxide:
    • For light-colored rugs, you can mix hydrogen peroxide with water (1:1 ratio) and apply it to stains.
    • Blot the stained area and let it sit for a short period.
    • Rinse the area with water and blot dry.

Remember to test any cleaning solution on a small, inconspicuous area of the rug first to ensure it doesn’t cause discoloration or damage. Additionally, always check the care instructions provided by the rug manufacturer before using any cleaning method.
