Tips to Live Organically

Listen to this blog post:

Your Home Reflects Your World.
Our environment or outer reality (where we live and work) is a reflection of, or at the very least impacts, our inner state of mind. Clutter, disarray, dust and dirt can make it hard to concentrate, let alone meditate. A quiet, well-organized, eco-friendly, toxin free home can serve as a haven in our hectic world.

Most of us work and spend time commuting, to and from home five days a week. On our off hours, we are connecting with friends, getting in some exercise, or taking the kids to after school activities, in between shopping for organic, locally grown produce, in addition to trying to have a bit of quiet focused time for ourselves. It feels like a constant balancing act.

Meditation, Order and A Clean House

Being able to come home to an uncluttered, clean home can help to create a sense of order and tranquility. There are those who believe it also has a positive impact on our mental health.

Some people are better than others at keeping clutter at bay, between serious bouts of housecleaning.

You probably know how to spot the habits of the neat and tidy.

  1. When you are invited to dinner, you watch your friend cook and clean, one step at a time. While the main course is in the oven, they’ll hand wash cutting boards or load the dishwasher with the bowls and utensils they used to prepare the first and main courses. No pile of dirty dishes stacked in their sink.
  2. Newspapers and magazines are displayed on a coffee table or neatly stacked on a bench for reading later. The pile reaches a certain height, and read or not, you just know the pile will move to the recycling bin.
  3. Their children may grumble, but they know their morning chores include making their own beds. According to an unlikely source (Admiral William H. McRaven) something as simple as making a bed can build character and change lives.

Staying on track in between regularly scheduled house cleanings is the key, whether you do the cleaning, or you work with a service. Just as you wouldn’t let anything, but an emergency come between you and your exercise (yoga, tennis, running, biking) or meditation routine, take the small steps to clean or tidy up, at regular intervals.

Meditation, Order and A Clean House

Whether it is making your bed every morning, tidying (or recycling) piles of clutter when you first arrive home in the evening or taking Saturday morning to do a quick run through with a vacuum or damp mop, it can make a huge difference in the way your home looks and feels.
